The most powerful question to ask each day
Would I like to be served by me today?
This was a question one of my participants shared in a workshop I ran many years ago that I
have never forgotten. It is a quote I share and attribute to this discussion as a key reflection in shaping a daily service mindset.
I learn so much from team members and leaders I work with, and upon sharing this quote, a team member Katie who works in education thought it was a great question to ask as a teacher, “Would I like to be taught by me today?”
I reflected further that night on the use of that question in multiple scenario’s.
“Would I like to be led by me today?”
“Would I like to parented by me today?”
It is so easy to rush into our day, and one of my personal heroes who has inspired much of my work in Service Leadership, Ken Blanchard, talks about the importance of being intentional in how we show up each day.
I have been practicing intention over this past week, getting up earlier and journalling my values I will focus on for the day and consciously thinking about who I am serving in both a professional and personal sense.
More intentional in my focus. From removing digital distractions through to how I greet others, be it my family or complete strangers.
And I can say, hand on heart, it is making the world of difference.
I am a WIP. A work in progress.
I believe if we are to deliver world-class service or world-class leadership, it is a never-ending pursuit of excellence. A pursuit to be the best version of ourselves, while acknowledging and celebrating the wins we have along the way and being kind to ourselves always.
Wishing you the most magical day ahead,
Until next time,
Yours in service,
Monique (she/her)
